La Boule – la petite france cachée

Salut mes amis! I trust you are all doing well. Today we are adding to the list of eatery reviews that I have always wanted on my blog. Coming from a culture where food plays a role not just as nourishment but to draw communities and people together (e.g. New Yam festival), I find myself drawn to restaurants and cafés that have that “part of a larger whole”, inviting feel (regardless of the physical size). Our café of choice is La Boule cafe, a small, modern French café off Whyte Avenue.

The first thing you’ll notice about La Boule is the truly splendid decor! I won’t lie I gushed for a good 5 minutes and sang praises of their interior designer to my friend. Although the space was not large, they had all the elements that created a Paris-esque atmosphere (minus the French heat sadly). The seating area was comfortable though hard to navigate through, and the displays were mostly filled and lined by a marble counter top. They did not have all desserts on display which was understandable as it was particularly busy on this afternoon and we had to wait for about 35 minutes to get the table we wanted.

I had a cup of hot chocolate, a tiramisu éclair and a pain au chocolate. Needless to say, but for the purpose of this review I will, the pastries were DELICIOUS! The éclair was everything plus a whole lot more – I did not expect anything less with that French + Italian infusion. The pain au chocolate was perfectly flaky, and the hot chocolate was just right. Might I mention all the menu items are very child-friendly in taste and in size.

Besides the delicious deserts and the quick trip to France, La Boule offers amazing customer service. The incredibly hospitable staff were excited to have us, and made the visit worth our money. Shout out to the waitress who agreed to reserve the seats right by the window for us, and special thanks to my friend for playing both confidante and photographer at the same time.

Be sure to check out my last reviews, and let me know in the comments below your favourite international cuisine. Thank you for reading, I shall see you all next week!

xx
