Monki Bistro

Hello my friends! A welcome back is certainly due as I did not plan to be away from the blog for as long as I have been but when duty calls… – you know the rest. “Duty” in this case consisted of final exams, moving back home and settling in to YYC. Its been a busy month but I’m super happy to be back! My first YYC post is on one of the most IG-worthy and affordable restaurants in downtown Calgary – Monki Bistro.

The main reason I ended up here was to catch up with one of my girlfriends but she convinced me to take up the opportunity to review the restaurant and would you believe she even brought her camera! Thank goodness that she did, I on the other hand showed up with my bare struggling-for-parking-change self and an empty stomach. Overall it was delightful, both to catch up on where we were in our respective lives and exchange ideas, as well as try out the food and take pictures. I definitely have done a lot of both in the past weeks since my return. If you would like to keep up with my YYC dining antiques, be sure to follow me on instagram and peep the food highlights.

Monki Bistro is the place to be if you’re craving chocolate fondue along with your hand-crafted burger and fries. In this case you are able to pick from four different fondue dippings including dark chocolate, green matcha chocolate, yellow numeric chocolate, and early grey leaf chocolate – or if you’re feeling a little extra you are able to get all four. My friend and I shared a fondue platter and later ordered our own individual meals. The selection of fruit provided was appropriate and very fresh, served on a wooden platter.

I also ordered the ground chuck burger with maple bacon on a pretzel bun, a side of hash-browns, and a mint lemonade. Portions were very well sized, and the food arrived hot and within good time even though we took our time ordering – we literally had so much to talk about.

On to taste – everything tasted as good as it looked. The mint lemonade had chopped mint leaves mixed into it and that strong sour lemon taste (much unlike most sweet lemonades). The hash browns were definitely a hit and I would highly recommend trying it with the chipotle sauce for optimum experience (trust ya girl!)

Over all, I definitely would return to Monki Bistro if not for the fondue but for the amazing service and warm cozy feel. Plus any joint that is student-coin-friendly is worth a try in my books!

Thank you so much for tuning in, I shall see you in my next post. Be sure to check out my previous reviews.

xx
