How to: A Surprise (Social Distancing) Bridal Shower

COVID-19 is playing NO games when it comes to cancelling everyone’s plans. That is how, folks, my girlfriends and I came to devise a social distancing bridal shower for one of my best friends. The original plan was a sweet B.C. spa get-away with the girls but this was put on hold due to the pandemic. But alas love prevails and we still managed to celebrate at a distance – here are the details below!

A week before the bridal shower we sent out invitations and began to put our plan into action. The groom was notified to suggest a pre-wedding shoot and picnic. The brother of the bride, who is a photographer, was asked to suggest an all-white theme for the shoot.

We chose a large park which was also ideal for a photoshoot. The park had lots of open space where everyone could gather but with ample distance between us. We planned to bring lawn chairs, a picnic table for food and blankets to sit on.

The limit for public gatherings was initially 15 people but the day before the bridal shower, it was increased to 50. We did attempt to notify more people but with such short notice it didn’t work out for most people we contacted.

We ordered Thai food to ensure everyone had something to eat, and brought drinks, a cake and decorations. Thankfully most of these items you can easily find at home (table cloth, blanket, cutlery etc.) but we made sure to order some essentials.

I was in charge of planning the activities for the day. I steered away from more common bridal shower activities and board games to allow us maintain appropriate distance.

Instead, I created a 17-page “e-book of events” filled with quizzes and activities to keep everyone busy. Have a look at a few pages from the e-book below.

As a gift from me to you I have made this template available for you to DOWNLOAD. Just fill out the form below!

On the day of the event gathered all the items I needed and planned to stop on the way to the location to pick up some items I was missing.

Having not planned a single event in over two months, it felt like I had forgotten how to do everything including my own makeup. I had yet to pick up gift bags and envelopes for the activities I had planned but trust the clock to keep racing right on. My main roadblock was a wardrobe mishap where I spilled foundation on my skirt. This was followed by a moment of silent contemplation where I wondered who sent us to do this, before I finally made it out the door!

Overall, the event went very well. There was lots of food, music, laughing and we even made a TikTok! I am so glad we could spend the time together despite the circumstances. Those who were unable to be there in person made a virtual appearance via FaceTime.

It was worth it to bring a ray of sunshine to bride-to-be. I highly recommend other bridal parties make do with what they can. After chatting with the girls we decided it is better not to postpone any significant events. We cannot know what next year may hold in terms of life’s surprises.

If you’ve made it to the end, I appreciate your patience and hope you enjoyed reading. Don’t forget to DOWNLOAD THE FREE 17-PAGE TEMPLATE!

I planned on taking photos for the blog but sadly with all the events and planning we didn’t quite get there. Here is a quick boomerang to hold you over until I can get back to my fashion/style diaries posts.

See you in the next one!
